Classes Tuesdays & Fridays
Jo’s Handstand Classes are suitable for all levels of ability. Exercises are given individually based on experience and skill level. Classes mostly take place on harder floors to reduce stress on the wrists, and will make use of all kinds of implements to present adequate challenges to the participants. Handstand training is more physical than most people expect, and it is recommended to be able to do a few good push-ups, to be able to touch one’s toes without bending the knees, and to be comfortable doing cartwheels and rolls. Due to the skill’s nature, it is also important that students have healthy wrists and shoulders, and spare time to practice throughout the week. Read below for a more in depth description of handstands.
HANDSTANDS
In addition to being a fundamental skill to many disciplines – think gymnastics, calisthenics, capoeira, break dancing, diving, and even some parkour moves -, handstands can be a discipline on their own. Seemingly simple, the practice can keep one busy for decades and turn into a high level performing art, become a gateway for people to get stronger, or a position one travels through when doing acrobatics. Its flexibility makes it a flexible, effective tool. In the end, handstands themselves can become a fascinating pursuit.
