We’re Going Solo…
On Thursday, November 19th The Provincial Health Officer updated the list of indoor group activities allowed to restart, which included: Dance, Martial Arts, and Yoga. We aren’t any of these things, but it did give us some relief that gym restrictions were easing.
On Tuesday, November 24th, only 5 days after seeming to ease restrictions, The Provincial Health Officer corrected the previous orders and put a ban on all indoor group activities including: Dance, Martial Arts, Yoga, and Gymnastics. Still, we are none of these things, but it is clear that we cannot continue to have groups of people arrive to take lessons at the same time.
Enter The Training Zones…
In our super secret coach dialogue we divide the gym into zones to communicate where lessons will take place. Occasionally we will slip these code words into instructions to students when describing areas of the gym. These zones have now been further divided and clearly marked with lines throughout the Gym at Main St, and the Studio in Port Moody. These new zones will be the framework for our new Solo Lessons and Open Practice times.
There are 15 Zones for Parkour and Tricking/Flipping practice
and 4 Zones in our Weight Room.
1-ON-1 Lessons
A 1-ON-1 is a class with you and a coach; or you, member(s) of your household and a coach. You can book a 1-ON-1 just like you book a class. You will find that most of the options for 1-ON-1s occur during your former class times. During the 1-ON-1 you and your coach will stick to one zone at a time to practice movement. You may see other people taking 1-ON-1s at the same time, but they will keep to their own zone and coach. Just like a regular class you will move around to different zones to practice skills, but you will never be in the same zone as another person.
Occasional zone crossing will happen, at which point a strict call and response will be used where the person wanting to move into your zone will request entry by stating their intention: “Hey Jane, I’d like to do a jump and land on that wall in your zone!” To let the person know it’s ok you can respond with “Copy!” The same call and response will be used for moving/retrieving equipment. These zone crossings can only be brief moments and coaches will make sure to have as little zone crossing as possible happen during a lesson.
Throughout your lesson your coach will give you instructions, ideas, and drills to continue with during your individual practice. 1-ON-1s are one hour, not including warm-up time.
Open Practice & Solo Classes
Open Practice times will operate with the same zone restrictions as 1-ON-1s. When you sign up for Open Practice you will arrive at your designated time and pick a zone to move in. Zones are first come first serve, however they do come with a time limit. We ask that all participants respect a 20 minute time limit per zone. This way other people can use the diverse structures and spaces of the gym in one visit.
Just like in 1-ON-1s the occasional zone crossing can and will happen. Participants are expected to strictly follow the same call and response protocols as listed above by requesting entry in to a zone and waiting for the participant occupying the zone to yell “Copy!”
Solo Class are exclusively for Session, Double-Up, or Unlimited Membership holders. These are scheduled at our most popular former class times. Many coaches will be floating around at these times to give you a hand with your training just like in a class. We think you’ll dig the freedom of learning and going at your own pace that this format will allow.
The Cost of Solo & Safety
Currently we are keeping all memberships running so as not to disrupt your gym use or our business. You will be contacted individually by a staff member to discuss options for your membership. Providing 1-on-1 coaching and less gym space cannot be done at our current prices, so we will be raising prices in some areas and manipulating memberships to fit our new business model. If you find that these options do not work for you, we understand and we hope to see you again in the future. Check out some of our new memberships and pricing below.

When You Arrive
1-ON-1 Lesson
Be 15 min early. When you get to the gym you will be directed to a warm up zone. In this zone you will complete a warm up before beginning your lesson with your coach. All lessons are staggered, so that you do not arrive at the same time as another person.
You are welcome to have someone in your household share a lesson with you! We understand this is a super difficult time for families, so all siblings and members of the same household are welcome to share their memberships. For example: a brother and sister who have Session Passes can attend two Solo Lessons in one month if they attend them together.
*Limit 4 People from the same household.
*Open Practice passes cannot be shared.
Coaches will clean equipment after use.
Open Practice & Solo Classes
- Stick to your appointment time. Please do not exceed the length of your appointment.
- Keep your distance from other participants. This should be easy if you stick to your zone, but please do not be tempted to approach others. You are welcome to share a zone with someone in your household.
- Get to know the far reaches of your zone before you begin moving, so that you do not accidentally enter another persons zone without a call and response.
- Move on after Twenty. Please respect the 20 minute rule, and allow someone else to use your zone after 20 minutes. We encourage communication amongst participants as long as it is done at a distance.
- Clean Up after yourself. When you are ready to leave a zone please disinfect any equipment you used. Disinfecting can be done by spraying any equipment or surfaces you touched with your hands or had near to your face. Disinfecting can be done quickly with spray bottles located in various parts of the gym. Make sure you firmly squeeze the trigger on a spray bottle, so that you spray an even mist over the surface you are disinfecting.
Participants who are unable to follow these points: Stick to Appointment time, Keep your distance from others, Move on after twenty, and clean up after themselves will not be allowed re-entry.
Moving Forward
Thanks for reading the new plan! One of our staff will be in touch with you as soon as possible to let you know what options you have regarding your existing membership. We are happy to be flexible and work with you to make sure you are getting the experience you want.
This new plan will not last forever, but we will have it in place until the end of the year. As restrictions for covid-19 begin to ease up again we will expand your memberships and allow more people to attend lessons. This will likely happen in phases, although the pandemic has taught us that anything could happen. An example of a Session Pass being phased forward could look something like this:
Phase 1: One 1-ON-1 Per Month + Unlimited Solo Classes / Open Practice
Phase 2: 2 Small Group Lessons Per Month + Unlimited Solo Classes / Open Practice
Phase 3: 1 Class Per Week + Unlimited Open Practice (pre-pandemic function)
Completely revamping our business plan into something that will allow us to remain open is a huge risk. If parkour has taught me anything over the last seventeen years it’s to boldly seek out challenges, assess risks, and take action with confidence. I am very excited about this next chapter, and I look forward to seeing the growth all of you will have with continued practice.
Be safe, and Advance with Precision 😉
